Málaga
The Spanish city of Malaga is a Mediterranean seaport on the Costa del Sol in the Andalucía region of southern Spain. It is the 2nd most populous city in Andalucía, the 6th in Spain and more importantly, a significant tourist destination. It can be confusing to hear about both Málaga and Costa del Sol as many people believe that Costa del Sol represents only the towns near Málaga. However, Málaga is included in the term too.
So why is Málaga called Costa del Sol too? This term is believed to come from a tourist that used to visit this area and was very surprised by the sunny weather and warm temperatures – no matter what season it was. Since then, it has become a popular name for the area.
Being located on the southern tip of the European mainland, Malaga is blessed with a typical Mediterranean climate. Tourists can enjoy Malaga all year around. Malaga enjoys about 3000 sunshine hours per year. That’s almost 300 days a year when you’ll see the sun!
This birthplace of Picasso is also famous for rich architectural history, Mediterranean cuisine, local wines and sandy beaches.
A person from Málaga is called Malagueño. Not any person gets to be a Malagueño because of birth, to be a true Malagueño one has to be immersed deep into its culture and traditions.
